Restoration FAQs

For Sinkhole Damage
Sinkholes manifest themselves in various ways. You can look at different areas of your property for the following signs of sinkhole activity.

Cracking Walls, Foundations,
Pool Patios, or Driveways...

Cracks that manifest themselves on the exterior walls of a structure are definitive of some degree of settlement. Stair stepping cracks are commonly seen just off the corners of a structure and at opposite corners of windows, (i.e. upper left corner and the lower right corner). You may also see stair stepping cracks in the middle of a long wall. Other locations around your property are vulnerable to cracking due to sinkhole activity including: foundations, pool patios, and driveways.

Sticking Windows or Doors

If you are having trouble closing doors and windows on your property you could be experiencing sinkhole activity. As your foundation begins to sink from the underlying sinkhole activity, your door and window frames will buckle and become uneven.

Leaning Trees or Fenceposts...

In determining if your property is at risk of sinkhole damage, it is important to not ignore the signs that are evident around your property. Any geological change in your property or neighboring property could result in sinkhole damage to your home. These signs can be seen in the form of leaning trees, fenceposts, or other structures that are not necessarily considered a structure of occupation.

Other Disaster Damage

If you require assistance from emergency and/or medical services, dial 9-1-1. Take the necessary measures to take care of your property’s occupants. Decide whether or not your property is safe enough for occupation (short- or long-term).

If your property’s electrical wiring might have been damaged, do not use appliances or electronics. If you have lost power, remove food items from your refrigerator and dispose of them. Collect valuable items such as family heirlooms, art, and important documents and relocate them from the property to a secure and dry location.

For Water, Wind, & Storm Damage
For your own safety, do not remove large limbs or trees that might have fallen on your structure. Secure Restoration Systems has trained experts who can remove the debris safely from your property without causing more damage. Attempt to remove excess water by using mops and absorbent materials such as heavy-duty sponges of chamois.

For Fire & Smoke Damage
If possible, try to limit the amount of traffic inside the fire/smoke damaged areas. Excessive movement can stir up soot and also leave tracks on flooring. If fire hoses were used to extinguish your fire, do your best to clean up any excess water by using mops and absorbent materials such as heavy-duty sponges of chamois.
